Personal Information:

  • When handling personal information, employees must:

    • Keep this information safe and secure.

    • Only ask for the personal details you need for business purposes, e.g. name and contact details.

    • Only use personal information, e.g. email or street address, after taking reasonable steps to make sure it’s accurate and up to date.

    • Respect a customer’s right to view and edit their information.

    • Get permission before passing on email address to another organisation or business.

    • Tell people what information you are collecting from them, and why.

    • Tell people if you need to send their personal information overseas.

Privacy Breach

  • What is a privacy breach?

    • Under the Privacy Act 2020, if CAL has a privacy breach that either has caused or is likely to cause anyone serious harm, the business must notify the Privacy Commissioner and any affected people as soon as you are practically able. 

    • A privacy breach occurs when an organisation or individual either intentionally or accidentally:

      • Provides unauthorised or accidental access to someone’s personal information.

      • Discloses, alters, loses or destroys someone's personal information.

      • A privacy breach also occurs when someone is unable to access their personal information due to, for example, their account being hacked.

    • Employees must notify the Privacy Officer of any breaches.
